Nicolien Sauerbreij - Snowboarding Superstar from a flat Country without Snow

Nicolien Sauerbreij was born on July 31, 1979 in De Hoef, Netherlands. She currently resides in Amsterdam. She has a sister who is also a professional snowboarder, Marieke Sauerbreij. Nicolien is a two time Winter Olympic Games competitor. At the 2002 Winter Olympic Games she did not qualify for a place in the top 16 to go on to the medal round. In the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, Nicolien did do better by qualifying for the top sixteen to race. She also won her first run but then lost the second run to Amelie Kober who ended up placing second.

Nicolien is a pro at the slalom events (slalom, parallel slalom and the giant slalom) as it is the only event that she competes in. Even though she did not shine as well as she would have liked to, she does have an extensive list of tournament standings at the World Cups for Snowboarding. Here are her winning standings for the World Cup championships:

Nicolien has also won various European Cups (2003, 2004, 2008), Northern American Cups (2007) and FIS Races (2003, 2004). She has won them in the slalom, the giant slalom and the parallel slalom. She is one of the longest competing snowboarding competitors in both Men's and Women's snowboarding. She started professionally snowboarding circa 1996 and continues to ride in and win competitions today. Nicolien Sauerbreij knows everything there is to know about riding the slalom and her professional experience can verify that.
