Mathieu Crepel was born on October 26, 1984 in the Hautes- Pyr‚n‚es. At the tender age of six, Crepel started snowboarding as it is normal considering he was surrounded by a mountainous atmosphere. His father was a ski instructor which enabled Mathieu to view all of the winter sports that were in the area and around Europe. At a very young age, Mathieu showed prominence so at the age of ten he was asked to participate in the Artic Challenge in Oslo. At the age of 15 he came in second in the Youth World Championships.
In the early 2000s, Mathieu Crepel made a jump into winning the Quik Cup two years consecutively in 2001 and 2002. In 2005, he continued the winning streak but placing first in the Crystal Globe competition. This marked worldly status because he was the first French citizen to win a world title in the half pipe. He was also selected for France's 2006 Olympic Winter Game's team but did not go home with any medals. He made up for the Olympic loss by becoming the first winner of the Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour. Continuiing his success he won the big air and the half pipe at the World Championships. This competition was monumental for Mathieu because he set yet another record. Crepel was the first competitor to ever land a switch backside 12 while competing in a tournament. His sponsors include Giro, Quiksilver, Fiat, Domaine du Tourmalet, Nokia and Evian.
Winning tournaments in snowboarding is not his only claim to fame. There is a new tournament set up by Crepel known as the Mathieu Crepel Invitational which is unlike any other tournament where the trick list is set at random by the contestant's nominations. He is also involved in various snowboarding videos.
