Lindsey Jacobellis is a Vermont native and the most successful female snowboarder. She is only 22 but has already competed in the Olympics and in the X Games and has always placed. She earned the silver medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics and the gold medal in the Winter X Games from 2003 to 2008 in snowboard cross with the exception of 2007 where she won the silver medal.
Lindsey Jacobellis has various wins under her belt but they do seem to be just as noteworthy as her tragic mistake at the 2006 Winter Olympics which cost her the gold medal. She came in second, not bad, but without this mistake she would have easily captured the gold. Granted she debuted at the Winter Olympics so her first rookie mistake was captured for all to see whereas other rookie mistakes take place in lesser known competitions where they learn from their mistakes, so that when the Olympics occur they do not have this mishap. Near the end of the Olympic Snowboard Cross race Lindsey attempted a board grab and subsequently fell when she landed which gave the lead to Tanja Frieden from Switzerland.
Lindsey is sponsored by Paul Mitchell, Nike, Under Armour, Palmer Snowboards, Bern, Visa, Stratton Mountain, Dunkin Donuts, Bolle and Frosted Flakes. Lindsey Jacobellis has also been named the US Olympic Athlete of the Year by USA Today and was nominated by the Women's Sports Federation as "Sportswoman of the Year". Another claim to fame of Lindsey's is that she was the first American rider for both men and women to win the Boardercross and the Halfpipe in one World Cup (2004). Lindsey has had her ups and downs but she is definitely still on the rise and is a superstar for women's snowboarding around the world.
