There are two types of snowboards that can be made: a capped snowboard and a traditional sandwich snowboard. Even though different companies make snowboards the basic structure of the snowboard is the same. It includes a base, a core, a top sheet and an outer edge. The board is made out of a variety of materials regardless of the type of snowboard that is being made. These materials include fiber glass, a wood or foam core, a plastic base, glue, metal edges and a rubber foil.
A custom snowboard does not consist of just one material board. Instead it is layered. The outer part of the snowboard that you see is the topsheet where the graphics are. This topsheet is made of plastic in order to protect the board. Below the topsheet is a layer of fiberglass which is very sturdy but must be protected by the plastic. Next comes the core of the snowboard. The core is the thickest part of the snowboard and can be made of honeycomb panels, foam or wood.
After the core, there is another piece of fiberglass layering to strengthen the snowboard. The steel edges are then placed around the snowboard. The final layering to the snowboard is the P-tex which is a polyethylene material. This plastic is high endurance that does not cause a lot of friction so that you can glide through the snow at any pace you'd like. For faster results, many people wax this bottom layer.
So, this is how your snowboard was constructed. Next find out how to learn snowboarding.
