In snowboarding, there is a lot of terminology and a lot of overlapping terminology. If you just want to ride, you are probably freeriding. The most common style of snowboarding is the freeride style. You can freeride anywhere you like which helps make it the most popular style. The term is actually modeled after freeriding in surfing.
The freeriding style is the best for beginners because the freestyle snowboards are so versatile. You can do just about anything with them whether it be gliding along the slopes and having fun with your friends, racing down the slope with fellow snowboarders or pulling off tricks. Most snowboarders that follow the freeride style have longer than average boards with the nose and the tail of the board being different in size and shape. This is important because freeride snowboarders ride on any terrain, so the board needs to give them control whether they are boarding on soft powdery snow or on ice.
Freeride style riders know that the board has to fit them perfectly, so there are various factors such as the following:
Freeride styles give you liberty to maneuver the snowboard as you like, but if the board does not fit you, you will have a difficult time doing so. Everything needs to be taken into consideration to be able to ride the terrain as you like to do so.
The freeride style allows a snowboarder to show off his talent and snowboard tricks while also being able to have fun on the ride. There isn't anything you cannot do while performing the freeride style.
