Artificial Snow - When there's No Real Snow, There's No Problem

A large part of snowboarding is due to the material that snowboarders ride on; snow! However, there used to be major problems if there was no snow. That meant that no one could go snowboarding and great snow lodges that supported snowboarding were not making any money due to the whether. Now it can be any season and snowboarders can continue to do what they love.

Artificial snow is also necessary because snowboarding is not just a winter sport. It is not just a sport anymore either. It is for some more like a job. There are snowboarders who spend eight hours a day out on the snow, perfecting moves for upcoming tournaments. It is impossible to be a worldwide snowboarding contender and only have the winter to practice and compete, while leaving the snowboard behind during spring, summer and fall. With artificial snow that acts just like regular snow, competitors can train all year long.

Creating snow is not the easiest task in the world, but it's been done and it has been improved upon to make the results as real as possible. This is crucial because snowboarders need to have that same snow like feel or else it could damage or compromise their snowboarding skills when they get back to the real stuff.

Artificial snow is comprised of mainly frozen water but use chemicals as seed materials in which the frozen water attaches to. These seeds include calcium, magnesium ions or even clay if the temperature is between 15 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is between 23 and 30 degrees Fahrenheit then other materials need to be used such as detergent, soap, fungi, silver iodide and lichens.

Seeds have even been created for optimum snow results like Snowmax(r). Another is Drift which helps water to freeze more quickly. Other artificial types of snow include snow rugs which simulate snow and can be rolled out even on the hottest day of the summer to go snowboarding. Snowflex is an example of this snow rug.

Artificial Snow has helped Snowboarders in a various ways, but the most important is to allow snowboarders to keep training all year long, so they don't lose those great tricks like the 1080.
