Snowboarding has a very strong following in the "Land Down Under." Although most people think of the hot Outback or the massive deserts, there are some amazing mountain ranges in Australia, and these ranges are a natural place for shredders to show off their skills.
Australia has its own snowboarding association, and its own web page specifically to help snowboarders find any information they want or need. This can be found at snowboardaustralia.org.au and is a great resource for snowboarders heading to that area.
Another nice feature of the slopes in Australia is that there is terrain for any level of snowboarder, from the novice who is just learning to the pro looking for a new run that will force them to use every bit of their skill to carve the slope safely.
New South Wales & Victoria seem to have the most areas for snowboarding in Australia, and there are nine really top notch resorts located on the mountain ranges on the eastern part of the continent. There is also one resort located on Tasmania, for those snowboarders who love going off the beaten path for adventure as much as the snowboarding itself.
The normal winter season in Australia is from June to September. If you want to spend an entire season in Australia, it's best to tray and get there in late April since that is about the time when most resorts start advertising job vacancies for the upcoming season.
While it's true that in the opinion of many that Australian snowboarding areas aren't nearly as good as some of the best slopes in Europe and North America, there are still some top quality slopes in Australia as long as you know where to work. There are also a lot of people who enjoy the culture, as the Aussies have a reputation for being completely laid back, fun loving party animals.
So if you like this culture, want an adventure, or want to find some new slopes to carve down, Australia could be the right stop for you.
