If you're a snowboarding fanatic, what could be better than a seasonal job on the slopes? Crisp winter air, white slopes begging to be carved, getting paid to snowboard every day - that has to be a dream come true!
Obviously that's not the whole story. There is good and bad with any job, snowboarding resorts included. But these are great seasonal jobs for the right types of people, and there is a lot of competition. So how can you get the inside track on one of these gem jobs?
There are several steps you can take to increase your chances of grabbing one of these great seasonal resort jobs on the slopes.
First: Research. Knowledge is power, and this is no exception. Do research on all your potential destinations, and not just on the resorts themselves. Look at the types of communities/towns you'll be living in, figure out what your living options are, and whether your budget will allow it. Figure out if there's any type of a life outside of your time on the slopes. All this is very important information.
If you find a resort you like, see if you have any connections at all. If you do, don't be shy about asking for help. Use everything to your advantage.
Once you get a job interview with a resort, show up to the interview as if you're applying for a professional job. Being a "first class carver" isn't as important to an employer as knowing that you are willing to listen, work, and follow orders. Remember, this is a job, and resorts get their reputations from their staff, so they're looking for the best employees to give them a good name.
Do all the common sense things the day before an interview. Shower, shave, trim up. Dress up in the nicest dress clothes you have, non-wrinkled, and make sure you look clean and professional. First impressions are made the most with appearance and the strength of your handshake, so don't fail either.
There are tons of websites online where you can look for jobs, and several are even designed for seasonal jobs and resort jobs. Do your research, look the part, and maybe you can land that great job that will have you carving up the slopes.
