The technology that made Gortex Jackets a reality helps keep snowboarders dry - even when they "take a spill"

The technology that made Gortex Jackets possible was first developed in 1976. Today, Gortex Jackets can be found in almost all sporting goods and active attire clothing stores.

The popularity of the Gortex Jacket in snowboarding is largely due to its waterproof capabilities. Gortex Jackets are made of the most lightweight and durable waterproof material, and are usually effective both in keeping water out and letting inside perspiration pass through.

The North Face, for example, designs its Gortex Jackets so that each square inch of fabric contains 9 billion pores. Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a raindrop but 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapor, otherwise known as perspiration. Because of this unique fabric, Gortex Jackets are rain, snow and sleet resistant, while at the same time remaining lightweight and breathable enough for comfort.

Pros and Cons of Gortex Jackets

A Gortex Jacket is especially useful in snowboarding and other snow sports, because of the high risk of falling on snow or being outdoors in generally wet conditions while participating in these activities. Most snowboarders who wear Gortex Jackets while snowboarding say that a Gortex Jacket is an extremely practical and comfortable type of waterproof gear for the sport.

The only complaint about Gortex Jackets is that they are not truly as breathable as their makers claim them to be. However, with recent developments in Gortex Jacket and clothing fabric technology, the new materials are increasingly breathable and comfortable. Waterproof gear is crucial for snowboarding, and, so far, Gortex and Gortex Jackets in particular have been the most effective and durable waterproof material on the market.
