Before you wax your board, be sure to have a snowboard waxing iron on hand

To keep your board in tip-top shape, you'll need to occasionally wax it. Waxing your snowboard makes the board easier to control and increases the board's speed. To apply wax properly, you'll need wax and a snowboard waxing iron. What is a snowboard waxing iron? A snowboard waxing iron is used to help drip and spread hot wax on the board. There are a variety of waxing irons available for purchase. Also, you can use a non-rusty clothing iron. If you use a clothing iron on your board, however, don't use it again on clothing. In general, waxing irons designed for snowboards work best.

Tips for using a snowboard waxing iron

Using a waxing iron for the first time may not be as simple as you think. Here are a few tips to help you get the job done right:

Take caution when working with an iron and hot wax. The wax can burn your skin as well as damage clothes, floors and even your board.
It should only take about 5 minutes using your iron to spread the wax along the board's base. Don't use the iron on the base for too long or hold the iron in one place on the board. Both of these actions can damage the board's base.

Before you begin using the waxing iron:

Experts recommend waxing your snowboard about every third time you use it. If you have never waxed a snowboard, ask for help. Your instructor or an expert at your local board shop can give you more detailed snowboard wax and iron instructions. He or she also can supply you with the snowboard equipment you need for waxing, including a good waxing iron.
