A snowboard package, for those among us who might be wondering, is simply gear that is bundled and sold together, as a 'package' in other words. Typically, snowboard packages are made up of a board, bindings, and boots from a particular manufacturer. And snowboard package deals can be found from most every manufacturer -- from Santa Cruz to Burton. Although these are in and of themselves pretty good value for money, not to mention a little easier than having to purchase all the equipment separately, people are, and rightly so, always looking to save a little extra. Unfortunately, good cheap snowboard packages are more difficult to find. Saving money is one thing, buying cheap junk is another entirely.
Perhaps the most sage advice to offer is to always buy your equipment towards the end of the season or later, as this is the time when most companies offload their excess stock in order to make way for the next season's hottest products. Keeping that in mind, another way to save money, while still buying quality equipment is to buy slightly outdated (perhaps the past season or two) snowboards. This way you can buy a brand name while not having to empty your bank account to do it.
It may sound obvious, and in fact it is, but when searching for bargain snowboard packages people can often lose sight of the fact that sometimes there's a reason that what they're buying is so much cheaper than anything else on the market: and that is because the product simply isn't very good. Cheaper materials make snowboards less expensive, but they also make them poorer products. This is especially true of internet shopping. Because customers are unable to properly inspect the products before their purchase, many unscrupulous operators advertise obscenely low prices and fail to deliver the standard of goods portrayed on the site. For this reason especially, it's a good idea to always buy from a reputable dealer.
Having said that, many stores do offer specialty snowboard packages, and some are even dedicated to offering used and closeout snowboarding items. As long as you're able to satisfactorily determine the quality of the board or equipment, buying second-hand is yet another way to save a lot of money. Sometimes these are ex-lodge rentals and in this case, it's likely that they're going to be in considerably worse condition than a single-owner board, so this is something you'll need to decide if you can live with or not.
On the other hand, some lodges offer a 'try before you buy' policy' that allows you to rent skis or boards and if you're happy with them, you may buy them. The benefit here is obvious, as you know from the outset that you're comfortable on the board even if it may not be in the best condition. Granted, it's not a snowboard package set, but we're trying to save money here, aren't we!
If it's quick, easy and convenient you want. Then take a look at the links to the right-hand side of this article. A variety of quality and relatively cheap snowboard packages can be found there, and a cheap snowboard bundle or two as well.
