An Introduction To Important Snowboard Tools - A Maintenance Primer

For obvious reasons, your snowboard is the most vital piece of well... err, snowboarding equipment you own. But that's not to say that it should be the only thing you own. Snowboard tools are every bit as important as the board itself and are a must if you are to properly care for and maintain your board. 'A poor workman blames his tools,' or so the saying goes, but there can be little doubt that without proper care, repair and maintenance your snowboard's performance will quickly deteriorate. Cuts and scratches, however minor, can become major flaws in less time than you might think. And that's to say little of edge wear and the dirt and grime that will accumulate on the base.

While far from an exhaustive list, we've brought together a small sampling of tools that most every snow boarder should consider making a part of his (or her) kit. Bakoda and DaKine have a host of useful board care products from multi-purpose binding tools and screwdrivers to base paste, wax cakes and edge tools. The great thing about many of these tools are that they are easily portable and offer a number of attachments or functions in one device to help reduce the amount of ancillary junk you'll need to carry with you at any given time. The DaKine Cool Tool is one such item that's really rather useful.

What Will They Think Of Next?

Of course, not all these features need be completely practical. The Burton Nugget Snowboard Screwdriver for instance houses a flathead as well as a #2 and #3 Phillips screwdriver. And most important of all (or least, depending on what you REALLY do on those ski trips), is a bottle opener at the centre of this snowboarding tool. Or how about the bakoda Jimmy Driver that houses a built-in whistle cap for emergencies... or any other moment that calls for a little noise. So yeah, not entirely practical, but whatever.

Basically, it boils down to this: regular snowboard maintenance, be it waxing or deburring is more important than you think. So, for cryin' out loud, have at least the basic snowboard equipment on hand, and use them! After all, small problems are easier and less expensive to fix, no?

Gathered oh-so conveniently to the right of this article are various snowboarding related product links that cover all the bases -- clothing to get that snow bunny to notice you, other more useful tools and accessories. Everything to get you started or keep you involved in the world of snow boarding.
