"Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go." - T.S. Eliot
It is perhaps with a thought such as this in mind that over a decade ago, Grant Wellington and a friend set out to start their own snowboard manufacturing company, at a time when the industry was in its infancy. Despite its slow start, by 1994 production had ramped up considerably and the company's name was changed from Never to Option; the option snowboard company that you know and love today! That same year, Geoff Power was brought on as CEO of the company.
In 1997, with the acquisition of No Fixed Address (NFA), the company gave itself more 'options' and a foothold in the skating and snowboarding clothing industries. Over the course of the last thirteen-odd years the company has won numerous accolades and signed riders such as Kevin Sansalone and Joni Makinen. Two men who also, incidentally, test-ride Option's snowboards and even design their own! Other members of the Option team include pro riders like Kendra Starr, Martin Rasinger, and Ryan Davis.
The company, based in Vancouver, Canada, and with offices in Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America, went public in 1999. Option-NFA's financial results for the end of 2004 were slightly improved upon the previous year's. Although sales slumped by 5%, ostensibly due to fluctuations in the US currency, cost reductions and overhead cutbacks resulted in the improved pre-tax profit.
An extensive range of Option clothing, boards and bindings can be found via the easily accessible links to the right of the page. As can similar product offerings from virtually ever other winter sports company.
