Actually, the first tip for snowboarding first timers is not too difficult - all you have to do is push yourself along using your back foot while your front foot is in the binding. Remember to make sure you keep the snow off your board though!

Staying on your heel-side, you slowly slide back and forth across the slope in the manner of a falling leaf where the move gets its name from!
