Safety first-important tips for snowboarding
Snowboarding is all the rage these days. But, before you head
for the hills, think about safety-especially if you're new to the
sport. Below are important tips for snowboarding that you should
consider.
Basic tips for snowboarding safety
The following tips will help keep you safe and reduce your chances
for serious injury.
- Think about your physical limits. Are you in shape? A regular
fitness program will make snowboarding easier and help protect
you from injury. If you haven't been physically active in a while,
consider heading to the gym and talking to a personal trainer
about the best way to get in shape for your new endeavor.
- Use the right equipment. Whether you buy or rent, you want
to use quality snowboarding equipment. Talk to a snowboarding
instructor or visit a local board shop for advice.
- Learn
about the sport. Sign up for lessons alone or with friends.
The basics you learn will be well worth the time, money and effort.
Injury prevention tips for snowboarding
- According tot the American Academy of Family Physicians, most
falls in snowboarding impact the hands, rear end and head. The
result? Mostly bumps and bruises. However, bad falls do occur,
and for this reason you should use proper equipment to protect
yourself from serious injury. Don't forget to:
- Protect your wrists. Wear wrist guards made for snowboarding
or in-line skating. Also, don't try to break your fall with open
hands. When you fall, try to break the fall by rolling. This method
is something you should practice during your lessons.
- Protect your head. If you land on your rear end, the
back of your head may hit the ground. This could become especially
serious if you land on hard ground or brush. While you're learning
the sport, it's best to wear a helmet.
