Snow boarding tips for parents: Here's how to keep your
kids safe
Is your child ready to hit the slopes? Before your son or
daughter takes on snowboarding, consider these important snow
boarding tips.
- Snow boarding tip 1: Be sure your child wears a helmet and make
sure the helmet fits correctly. If you're unsure, talk to your
child's snowboarding instructor or an expert at a local board
shop.
- Snow boarding tip 2: Dress your child in layers. Your child
should wear long underwear made of polypropylene. This fabric
dries quickly and helps wick sweat away from the body, so your
child won't get cold. Your child should also wear a sweater, snowboard
pants, a waterproof jacket, a hat, goggles and gloves. Snowboarding
boots are available to buy or rent.
- Snow boarding tip 3. Slather on sunscreen. This snow boarding
tip is important, because even on cloudy days, your child can
develop a bad sunburn.
- Snow boarding tip 4: Put your child in class. Most resorts have
snowboarding classes that cater to kids and teens.
- Snow boarding tip 5: Make sure your child has his or her name
and phone number pinned into his or her clothing. This is an important
precaution in case of accidental separation from you or your child's
snowboarding group. Also, if you do become separated, have a plan
on where to reunite.
